Tricky one. I'd be inclined to help except for the fact that YOU DIDN'T TELL US YOU HAD A PS3
I feel betrayed and like I've lost all my friends....
=================
Anywho..... What happens when you put in a DVD etc. Wierd noises, any lights flashing.
** DO YOU SEE A YELLOW LIGHT AT ANY STAGE AFTER TURNING IT ON? **
Have you tried resetting back to factory defaults? Doing this, you MAY have to enter your PSN details again. Backup your game saves JUST IN CASE.
WheN dId YOu puRChasE yoUR Ps3? European law, just passed recently[2003], gives you a 2 year warranty on electrical items, regardless of manufacturer warranty. I'll dig up the link later.
if you can't get it to work yourself, bring it back TO WHERE YOU PURCHASED IT. Be friendly. Say you would like a repair or replacement. If they refuse because out of warranty, mention the European Law. If they refuse, bitch slap them. If they refuse, demand money back. Don't give up. No retreat, no surrender.

Ooops! I didn't tell u guys i have a PS3 ?! Sorry. Just to be sure not to forget any more interessting stuff. I have a PS3, a XBOX360, a Harmann-Kardon 7.1 Surround System, a 2,40m wide 16:9 screen and a Sanyo 720p/1080i HD-Beamer. :)) *wank*

I have my PS3 for 'bout 1 - 1 1/2 years now (time of COD4 release) so the warranty shouldn't be a problem.
I didn't reset it to factory defaults yet, but i'll back it up before. Thanks for the advise.
No yellow light, but the blue one continuesly lights beside the green one when i insert media.
I'll reset it and tell u my progress.
Thanks 4 ur help.
@Devil: I hope buying a new one will be an option... ...NOT

That's a good sign. The blue light is meant to come on when a disk is inserted. At least you know that the PS3 HARDWARE is detecting a disk.
I've heard that the PS3 optical laser is of shoddy quality and has borked on a LOT of people. If this is your problem, a factory reset won't help.
Try the reset and if that doesn't work, bring it back to place of purchase for repair.
If place of purchase assist you without argument, they will deal with you in one of a few ways.
1. Repair it as requested
2. Take your unit and ship you a refurbished unit soon [days to weeks wait]
3. Give you a NEW model before you leave the shop. You'r best chance of getting this is to ring Sony Playstation warranty phone number and go through the steps with them [act semi dumb, be nice and DO NOT mention the Euro 2 year law. Only mention the law to the retailer. After all, you are ultimately looking for a new box not a refurbished one]. If they can't fix it over the phone, they will give you a reference number and request that you bring it back to place of purchase to be dealt with. Once the retailer verifies the reference number, they will know that they will be paid by Sony.
Sorry Keefy, I didn't know this info when you're system went bad but I've been doing a LOT of research on it since

The only thing I've heard is that its a well known problem in Holland. The PS3 blu ray combi sounds nice, but.. the blu ray player will break after a while, so quite an expensive investment.
The problem seems to be called: "The Invisible Ring of Death"
It's a known issue with the PS3. Check Sony's site for info?
:
Dutch news program Radar is reporting that PlayStation 3 consoles allegedly just die after a year to a year and a half of service without warning.
Radar’s evidence of the PS3’s problem were the 300 reports it received from PS3 owners in the Netherlands. Unlike their rival Dutch network Kassa, who broke the news on the 360’s disc scratching problem, Radar didn’t call upon any hardware specialists or do any lab tests.
Sony responded that of the 250,000 PS3 owners, they had received only 68 calls about problems from consumers in the Netherlands. Sony insisted the PS3 defect rate was well with in industry standards.
Is this a lurking problem, since the PlayStation 3 has just been out for two years? This may be a false alarm or the tip of the iceberg. If true, at least you can credit Microsoft for at least having a red ring warning when something is wrong.
Here is a letter (In dutch!) you can use to send to the shop where you bought it you don't agree with this way of PS3 expectations. www.youritromp.nl/file...ct_ps3.doc
Good luck
